Description
The Pine House, established in 1757, is one of the oldest continuously occupied house sites in western South Carolina. Built initially by RIchard Pace, President George Washington visited during his tour of the south in 1791. The house was owned by several prominent planters in the antebellum period. Benjamin W. Bettis purchased the home in 1858. It burned in 1866 and was rebuilt in 1868 - as it stands today. The stunning Greek Revival home has been in one of two families for more than a century and a half. Featuring wide, central halls up and downstairs, the house is a ''four over four'' layout typical of the time period. It has heart pine floors and original plaster/lathe walls. Interesting architectural features include beautiful mantle pieces, red Venetician sidelights, crown moldingchandeliers, and brick porches. The home has five large bedrooms and a kitchen renovation completed in 2013. The Pine House has two new (2016) five ton, split system HVAC units and all new, modern ductwork. There is a new tankless hot water heater and as well as all utilities: cable, high speed internet, county water, and sewer is available. Own your own piece of history today!
